It took longer than expected, but Nazem Kadri finally inked a longer-term deal in the middle of August with the Calgary Flames. After waiting to see how the market played out, Kadri inked a 7-year, $49M deal with the Flames. Before he finally signed though, there were numerous reports stating he was willing to take a discount to remain in Colorado and attempt to help the Avs go back-to-back.

Unfortunately, the two sides could not come to an agreement and Kadri made his way back to Canada. Before he did though, Kadri left the the Avs players' group chat with a bit of a mic drop.

On the 32 Thoughts podcast, Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek asked Nathan MacKinnon if any moves made him go "wow" during the off-season to which he said Kadri going to Calgary did. MacKinnon said Kadri left the group chat after thanking the team, but his sign-off line dropped more than a few jaws. Kadri's parting words? "I don't give discounts" - presumably referring to the reports of him possibly taking a discount to stay with Colorado.

Of course Kadri meant it in a joking way, just read his posts about leaving Colorado - he absolutely loved his time there. As Kadri begins the next chapter of his career, he has already made a mark, using some of his signing bonus to donate $1M to London, Ontario's newest hospital.
