I think it's pretty well-noted that NHL players are creatures of habit. Most players even have pre-game rituals that they follow to the letter night in and night out. BR Open Ice recently some of the more wild pre-game rituals - and there are some doozies, including those of Patrick Roy, Sidney Crosby and Wayne Gretzky.

Roy used to talk to his goal posts before the game to ask them for help. We all know that goaltenders are a little bit "out there", but then again, you'd have to be a little crazy to stand in front of pucks that are being blasted at you at 100 mph.

Crosby has a few pre-game rituals, but perhaps the most odd one is that he walks around the arena the long way so as to not pass the visitors' dressing room. Whether this be to avoid running into the enemy before the game or just that he likes to stretch his legs, Sid's quirky pre-game ritual is a strange one.

As for The Great One, well, Gretzky was known to indulge himself with a variety of junk foods before games. Gretzky felt as though the energy that these items provided gave him a bit of an edge. Given all we know now about nutrition and sport science, his offensive output over his career is all the more impressive.
