Former NHL bench boss John Tortorella is rumoured to have interviewed for at least 2 NHL coaching gigs ahead of the 2022-23 season, including one with the Detroit Red Wings and one with the Philadelphia Flyers. It would appear as though he has advanced to the next stage with the latter.

Per Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli on Thursday morning, Tortorella is expected to be a part of the second round of the Flyers' hiring process, whenever that occurs. Torts took the year off from coaching in 2021-22 in order to try his hand at hockey analysis for ESPN.

The Flyers had a miserable season in 2021-22, posting a 25-46-11 record, totaling just 61 points and finishing dead last in the Metropolitan Division and 29th in the overall League standings. The chances of a total rebuild this summer are very good. Tortorella might be just the man for the job to set a precedent for the next crop of players coming through Philly.

Tortorella has coached 1,383 career NHL games, amassing a 673-541-37-132 record (W, L, T, OTL), with 12 playoff appearances and one Stanley Cup. He also has a pair of Jack Adams Awards to his credit (2004, 2017).
