Trusted NHL Insider provides some pretty eye-opening information relating to Chychrun and the Leafs
Over the weekend, things have seriously picked up surrounding a potential Jakob Chychrun trade after the Arizona Coyotes had healthy scratched Chychrun for what the team called "trade related reasons". There were plenty of reports linking Chychrun to teams like the Leafs, Oilers, Kings, Flames and Bruins, so naturally, when the healthy scratch took place, it sent the insiders into a frenzy as they all tried to get the inside scoop as to where he might be headed.
Obviously, Chychrun wasn't moved this weekend, and there were also reports that the Leafs and Oilers are not believed to be the frontrunners in the race. The team who appeared to be the frontrunner was the LA Kings, but after a report from Nick Kypreos, suggesting that 2021 8th overall pick Brandt Clarke would be the centerpiece of a trade for Chychrun was debunked, we're essentially back to where we started and nobody seems to know exactly what will happen with the Yotes' top trade chip.
On Monday morning, NHL Insider Darren Dreger joined First Up to discuss the Leafs' level of interest in Chychrun. Dreger mentioned that he does not believe that the Leafs are even in the running, contrary to prior reports suggesting that they might be a favourite to acquire the skilled blueliner, who is locked up to a very reasonable contract for two more seasons after this one, carrying a $4.6M cap hit.
"I don't believe the Leafs are one of [the teams interested in Chychrun]... I can just flat out say that, no, Toronto is not in on Jakob Chychrun. I don't believe that they're a frontrunning team or pushing hard here. It still feels like it's LA to me."

Dreger also mentioned that there's no question that the Leafs do need to add some pieces ahead of the deadline, and echoed his sentiments that the Leafs were never a top contender for Chychrun.
I think we're all growing pretty tired of the Chychrun saga. I, for one, can't wait until he's finally dealt so we can all stop talking about it.
