Following a day off Sunday, where the team travelled back to Toronto, the Leafs returned to practice today ahead of their matchup on Tuesday against the Florida Panthers. After practice, head coach Sheldon Keefe provided an update on the injured defenseman T.J. Brodie.

Brodie, who last played on January 7th against the Detroit Red Wings, was placed on the injured reserve list on January 10th for the second time this season with a rib injury. Without revealing much, Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe originally stated there was no timetable for his return. Fast forward nine days later, Keefe has hinted at a possible return date for the veteran defenseman.

As mentioned previously by Keefe, he initially stated that Brodie would miss time with an injury, but that his absence wouldn't be "too long". From his interview today after practice, Keefe seems confident that Brodie is progressing and may end up missing a total of two weeks, which puts him on track for a return next week.

Brodie has 2 goals and 6 assists, totaling 8 points in 28 games this season, averaging 21:09 of ice time per game. As we know, the Leafs have faced many injuries on the blue line this season.

Look for Brodie to return against perhaps the Montreal Canadians on January 21st.
