It appears that the NHL's all time leader in consecutive games played may be calling it a career. As of right now, Keith Yandle is an unrestricted free agent, contemplating his next move. Per a recent report, Yandle is considering hanging up his skates after a career that saw him play 1,109 games, scoring 103 goals and 619 points, great numbers for a defenseman. His career -103 rating, however, is not.

It's extremely unlikely that Yandle will re-sign with the Flyers again after his Iron Man streak was unceremoniously ended by a healthy scratch late in the season by a team who was nowhere near contending for a playoff spot. The Flyers choosing to end his streak at 989 games was not only disrespectful, it backfired immediately on the team. Defenseman Ronnie Attard, the player Yandle was scratched for, went -4 in his NHL debut, getting absolutely lit up by, conveniently enough, the Leafs.

At 35 years old, Yandle is no spring chicken, but his 16 years of NHL experience should be worth something to a rebuilding team. According to his agent, there have been talks with several teams, but nothing has materialized as of yet. With no Iron Man streak left to hold on to, it wouldn't surprise me to see Yandle retire. After 989 consecutive NHL games without a break, who would blame him?
