"«I didn't expect this call-up at all. It's an adrenalin rush all over your body, it's exciting.»
That is what Andreas Johnsson had to say after his first regular season practice with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 2013 seventh-round pick took line rushes with Tomas Plekanec and Kasperi Kapanen this morning and it certainly looks like he will make his NHL debut versus the Dallas Stars tomorrow night.
«We haven't had a lot of opportunity to give him a chance,» Leafs coach Mike Babcock said, per the Toronto Star. «Even now, someone else will have to sit. But we have three games this week to give him a look. We've seen him on TV and live, and he's had a good season. (The Marlies) really like him down there … he's an ultra-competitor.»
Johnsson came over to North America last season and scored 20 goals and 47 points in his first 75 AHL games. This season he leads the Marlies in scoring and is second in the AHL with 26 goals and his 54 points has him tied for fourth overall.
With Auston Matthews out, this is perfect time to give the 23-year-old winger a look. One thing is for sure, the fourth line will be able to skate against the Stars tomorrow. "
