Matthews had already won the Rocket Richard Trophy after scoring 69 goals this season, but he was also up for the Ted Lindsay Award, a trophy given to the player voted most outstanding by his peers.
Unfortunately for Matthews, Nathan Mackinnon walked away with the award, but it was a memorable night nonetheless and the photos of Matthews will live on in infamy.
Aside from the white sneakers and black dress pants, which were fairly normal by most standards, Matthews' jacket choice was certainly one to behold. Somewhat reminiscent of Ricky from the Trailer Park Boys, Matthews certainly drew more than a few gazes on Thursday, as did his mom, Ema Matthews, who also dressed up for the occasion.
With the NHL Awards now out of the way, all of the attention will shift to tomorrow evening's draft, followed by rounds 2-7 on Saturday. From there, team reps will travel back home from Vegas to prep for the start of free agency on Monday.
