After getting off to a slow start with the Leafs last season, Max Domi turned in a very productive second half of the season. Domi recorded 47 points in 80 games to go along with 118 penalty minutes. Signed to a 1-year, $3M deal last off-season, Domi and Leaf fans were ecstatic when he came home.
Since the Leafs season ended, Domi has been outspoken about wanting to remain in Toronto long-term and the Leafs have expressed interest in bringing the 29-year-old back. Of course, bringing him back will only happen if the price is right and according to Elliotte Friedman, the price is lower than what was initially reported, but term is the sticking point.
It's no secret that Domi would like some stability and a long-term extension given that his last four contracts have been one or two years and at his age, it is likely going to be his last long-term contract.
The good news is that he is reportedly seeking somewhere in the neighbourhood of $16M over four years according to Friedman. The bad news is that the Leafs may be limited in what they can offer until after they've sorted their blueline situation out.
