When the Toronto Maple Leafs season came to an end, social media blew up with rumours of some tension between head coach Mike Babcock and star forward Auston Matthews. Sportsnet Nick Kypreos took it even further and stated that Babcock had "lost" Matthews and refused to pair him with fellow youngster Mitch Marner. Matthews kind of put a little gasoline on that fire when he mentioned that he wished he played with Marner more but didn't make the lineup decisions. On Saturday during Hockey Night in Canada, Elliotte Friedman reported that the two had meetings recently in Arizona to try and iron out any differences. «The expectation is the two of them are going to talk or have talked this weekend as they try to air things out and fix things between them,» said Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman on Saturday. Well this is certainly taking a weird turn, hopefully everything is ok between the two when the season starts in October.
