Bob McKenzie Drops Wild Report Regarding Maple Leafs and Mikko Rantanen

TSN Insider Bob McKenzie has provided an update on the possibility of Mikko Rantanen joining the Toronto Maple Leafs.
All eyes are on Mikko Rantanen of the Carolina Hurricanes today as the NHL's trade deadline draws near.
Unable to reach an agreement with the Hurricanes on a contract extension, it seems very likely that the elite forward will be on another team before the day is out.
There's been plenty of speculation that the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to land the Stanley Cup winner, but TSN Insider Bob McKenzie says he doesn't see that happening today.
However, in a statement that is certainly raising eyebrows, McKenzie said the Toronto Maple Leafs are expected to make a play for Rantanen should he hit free agency over the summer.
"What I was told by a couple of people last night, in a vacuum, was don't sleep on Toronto and Florida as places that Mikko Rantanen might look favourably on in free ageny.

That would be a massive move by the Maple Leafs head office, but also raises some questions.
The main one would be Mitch Marner, and the ability to re-sign him and sign Rantanen at the same time.
Rantanen is rumoured to want $13 million to $14 million on a new contract, and won't agree to a trade away from Carolina unless an agreement on a deal with the new team can be reached in advance.
Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs' head office has other irons in the fire as the trade deadline approaches while GM Brad Treliving looks for another centre to add to his lineup.
