Brad Treliving is entering his 2nd season as Toronto Maple Leafs GM. After this off-season, it is very clear that Treliving has a different management style than the Leafs' former GM, Kyle Dubas.
Nick DeSouza, co-host of The Everything Leafs Podcast, took some time to relay some very valid points on Treliving's management style in a social media thread this weekend.
Brad Treliving, has had a busy off-season this summer. However, that is solely by acquiring players through free agency, whereas former GM Kyle Dubas would wheel and deal with players much more frequently with some very mixed results.
While the Dubas regime may be more fun and exciting, it does not necessarily make it the most succesful way of managing a team.
DeSouza emphasized in his thread that he doesn't intend any of this to be a shot at Treliving.
Treliving has focused heavily on improving overall team-defence this off-season by signing players like Chris Tanev, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Jani Hakanpaa and Anthony Stolarz in free agency.
Time will tell if Treliving's safer style of management is better suited for a Maple Leafs team that has seen little playoff success over the last 2 decades.
