"One of the Toronto Maple Leafs' key players and leaders has been playing on an expiring contract and it wasn't looking good according to reports. Many believed he would be traded at the deadline or left to walk to free agency during the summer. However those plans were thrown out the window. The Toronto Maple Leafs and general manager Kyle Dubas announced that they've signed defenseman Morgan Rielly to a contract extension on Friday. It's a deal that carries the maximum 8 years and will see RIelly carry an AAV of $7.5million over the next 8 years. The 27 year old is currently the longest serving Leaf on the roster and has worn a letter on his jersey since 2016. He's currently registered 4 assists in 8 games so far this season.
