The Toronto Maple Leafs are coming out of the Christmas break missing some key pieces due to injury, but did receive some good news when it comes to Chris Tanev.

There's really no sugar-coating it, the Maple Leafs have had a real issue with staying healthy in 2024-25.

Injuries to several NHL regulars this season, including Auston Matthews, Anthony Stolarz, David Kampf, Max Pacioretty, and Max Domi, really left the Leafs to overcome some serious adversity, which, for the most part, they have.

However, when Chris Tanev went down with an injury against the New York Islanders, his absence was very noticeable in Monday's loss to Winnipeg.

Thankfully, when the Leafs took to the ice on Friday morning, according to The Hockey News' David Alter, Tanev was among them.

"As the Leafs get ready for a full skate here, Chris Tanev is on the ice. Missed last game despite taking warmups with a lower-body injury."

Tanev was reportedly taking reps in his usual spot next to Jake McCabe, which is a strong indicator that he could draw back in tonight against the Red Wings.

Leafs head coach Craig Berube revealed following practice on Friday that Tanev would be a game-time decision. The silver-lining, even if he doesn't play, is that he's close to returning.

Recently, Tanev expressed that he has never had more fun in his career than he is right now playing in Toronto, his hometown. His enjoyment has been noticeable in his play.

Tanev, 35, has never been known for his point production, but he has managed to amass 10 points in 34 games this season, and also leads the team in blocked shots with 99 on the season.
