28-year-old scoring winger Bobby McMann is ready to step in after the Maple Leafs suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to the Montreal Canadiens in Wednesday's season opener.
As reported by Mark Masters on X:
It was somewhat surprising that McMann was scratched on opening night. But the knock on McMann, is similar to former Maple Leaf, Pierre Engvall, as both players have tremendous upside and all the right tools to succeed, but seem to have an issue utilizing them.
Leafs Coach Craig Berube spoke highly of McMann despite being scratched opening night, and this could be the perfect opportunity for McMann to solidify his place in the lineup.
Last season, McMann had an impressive campaign, scoring 15 goals in 56 games. He will surely provide more offensive contribution than veteran Ryan Reaves, the player he will be subbing in for. While the fourth line showed promise at times during yesterday's clash, it was evident last night that they lacked a finisher, which could have been the difference-maker in the loss.
Additionally, Timothy Liljegren remains scratched for tonights clash against the Devils, leading to speculation about a potential trade, as a $3 million-per-season player should be on the ice, not in the press box.
