Goaltending has been a problem in Toronto for a very, very long time. Not since the days of Ed Belfour, Curtis Joseph or Felix Potvin had a legit game-stealer in their midst. Sure, Frederik Anderson has stolen a couple of games. Sure, Ilya Samsonov has stolen a couple of games. But I'm talking about a guy who comes out every game and gives the team a legitimate chance to win on any given night.
Following Keefe's termination, Don Cherry took to social media to share his thoughts on the matter. Cherry, a former coach himself, sympathized with Keefe, knowing what it's like to be fired. However, he also revealed that he believes that the Leafs got goalie'd by Jeremy Swayman and implied that if Swayman had been a Leaf, Sheldon Keefe likely wins that series and is still employed in Toronto right now.
It's inarguable that Swayman stole that series for Boston. He was far and away the best player for the Bruins all series long against the Leafs - especially in Game 7, where he posted a .968 SV%, making 30 saves in the Bruins' OT win.
Do you think the Leafs would have won the series against Boston if Swayman was a Leaf and Samsonov was a Bruin? Let us know in the poll below!
