On Saturday evening, Craig Berube and the Maple Leafs extended their win streak to 3 games after steamrolling the Montreal Canadiens by a score of 4-1 on home ice.
The Canadiens left Scotiabank Arena with their tails between their legs, but Leafs Morning Take co-host and former Toronto Maple Leafs tough guy Jay Rosehill was especially unimpressed by a certain member of the Canadiens during one specific moment in the game.
While speaking with co-host Nick Alberga this week, Rosehill absolutely roasted Canadiens defenceman David Savard for not answering the bell when Max Domi asked him to drop the gloves in the heat of the moment.
On the one hand, Domi took the opportunity to ask a guy who doesn't often drop the gloves to go toe-to-toe, but on the other hand, Savard is three inches taller and twenty-five pounds heavier than his opponent, so at the word "go", he should have been prepared for whatever were to transpire.
If Savard wants to play a certain way, and everyone knows how he takes liberties with opponents when the referee has his back turned, he should be able to deal with the consequences of his actions.
In the moment, Savard made himself look really bad by waiting to drop the gloves, so the referees stepped in immediately. It's a bad look and sets a terrible example for the young players coming up in Montreal. This is a veteran guy who plays a gritty game, refusing to answer the bell. Not exactly inspiring stuff from Savard, and Rosehill wasn't shy about letting him know it.
