When the Maple Leafs took to the ice on Monday for their first practice in a brand new week, they did so without the likes of Matthews once again..
In fact, not only did Matthews miss practice, but after skating on Saturday, the reigning Rocket Richard Trophy winner did not take to the ice at all, sparking some concerns over a potential setback. Fortunately, that does not appear to be the case.
Following practice on Monday, Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving spent some time speaking with the media in Toronto, and in doing so, shared an update on Matthews. Thankfully, Treliving doesn't seem the slightest bit concerned about his captain.
Matthews has been sidelined since November 3rd with an unspecified upper-body injury, missing each of the last 3 games for the Leafs. If he does indeed miss Tuesday's meeting with the Ottawa Senators, it will mark his 4th consecutive game on the shelf.
Matthews is eligible to return from Injured reserve at any point in time, but if he's considered doubtful for Tuesday's game against the Sens, he'll likely carry the same designation for Wednesday's game in Washington. In the even that he misses the back-to-back, his next opportunity to play will be on Saturday against Edmonton.
