Former Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri has revealed just how dirty Kyle Dubas really did him with the trade to the Colorado Avalanche.

On July 1, 2019, Kadri, along with Calle Rosen and a 2020 third-round pick were sent to Colorado in exchange for Tyson Barrie, Alexander Kerfoot and a 2020 sixth-round pick. The trade not only shocked Leaf fans, but Kadri as well, as he detailed in his new book, 'Dreamer: Life on the Edge'.

In a previous excerpt, Kadri detailed the controversial clash between Mitch Marner and former head coach Mike Babcock. In a more recent excerpt, since the book's release on October 15th, Kadri revealed that the trade that sent him to Colorado blindsided him and his family.

According to Kadri, following his second consecutive playoff suspension against the Boston Bruins, he was called into a meeting with the Leafs' coaching staff and management. During that meeting, he was told that he was part of the Leafs' future plans. Following those assurances, with he and his wife expecting a child at any moment, Kadri says he unexpectedly began getting calls and messages from Calgary Flames players and management in an attempt to coerce him into joining the Flames. News that the Flames were interested in the now 34-year-old was shared with him by his agent Darren Ferris, but that he vetoed the trade as the Flames were one of the teams on his no-trade list.

News of the reportedly vetoed trade began to garner questions from his Leafs teammates as they were upset about the rumoured trade when Kadri had to essentially cover for management and tell them everything was fine. Soon after, however, he was dealt to the Colorado Avalanche and his wife gave birth just days later.

The details surrounding his departure from the Leafs shed light on his comments from his Stanley Cup interview, in which he threw some heavy shade at the Maple Leafs.

"For everyone that thought I was a liability in the playoffs can kiss my ass," said Kadri as he ended his on-ice interview with David Amber following the Avalanche's 2022 Stanley Cup victory.

Following his Cup win, Kadri eventually signed a 7-year deal to join the Flames.

Kadri's tell-all book is a must read if you haven't already as he sheds light on a variety of issues and obstacles he has faced throughout his life and hockey career.
