"The Toronto Maple Leafs have a goalie situation to figure out this offseason as Frederik Andersen is slated to hit free agency. However his agent, Claude Lemieux, recently told NHL insider Pierre LeBrun that Andersen has discussed with the Leafs about possibly returning in a 1A-1B role with Jack Campbell. But with this latest update, it doesn't seem likely. Fellow insider Darren Dreger reports on Andersen's current salary demands and it's just not something that the Leafs likely have room for. According to Dreger the goalie is looking for an AAV of $5million at the minimum but would prefer a raise on that number which is what he earned during his last deal. There's just no way the Leafs can fit that under their cap considering all the other holes they need to take care of.On the other hand, general manager Kyle Dubas has been quite the salary cap wizard over the years so anything is possible. Would you take Andersen back on a $5million+ AAV?
Dreger on TSN1050 feels Frederick Andersen believes he's worth $5M AAV and perhaps a bump in salary. DD believes he'll hit the open market cause to even go to $5M AAV would be difficult for Toronto. — NHL Watcher (@NHL_Watcher) July 5, 2021
