TSN's Chris Johnston has confirmed what many speculated regarding the heath of Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews.

Auston Matthews was absolutely dominant in game two of the Leafs' first round series against the Boston Bruins where he had two assists and scored the game-winner in the third period. Unfortunately, Matthews has not been himself since.

Concerns first arose when he did not take part in practice ahead of Game 3, but those concerns were heightened when he was pulled from Game 4 by team doctors at the end of the second period and did not come out for the third.

Matthews was forced to miss Game 5 and has now been ruled out of Game 6 with TSN and The Athletic's Chris Johnston confirming everyone's biggest fear - that it is more than just an illness.

"What is known is that the 26-year-old played through illness in Games 3 and 4 of the series before suffering an injury on an innocuous hit while playing sick, according to the sources. Team doctors removed Matthews from the lineup during the second intermission of Game 4 and he's been unable to participate in a full team skate since."

Until the Leafs are eliminated from the playoffs, we likely won't know the full extent of his 'illness' or injury, but given that he skated for 30 minutes this morning, things appear to be progressing, if we're looking for a silver-lining.
