The Maple Leafs were able to escape Boston with a big 2-1 OT win over the Bruins on Tuesday evening, forcing a Game 6 back in Toronto on Thursday, much to the delight and surprise of Maple Leafs fans who have been watching the Bruins impose their will on the Leafs all series long.
During the contest, we saw Brad Marchand taken down hard by an official after a spat with Leafs forward Pontus Holmberg, which sent both players to the penalty box. However, the Joe Bowen play call made the ordeal that much more exciting and enjoyable.
Bowen, A.K.A. "The Voice of the Maple Leafs" has been creating lasting memories for fans in the booth for more than 4 decades. His play calls and Leafs homerism have become a thing of legend during his time behind the mic and while he's never been able to call a Leafs Stanley Cup victory, the hope is that this will be the year.
Bowen currently does the radio play-by-play for Sportsnet and TSN both at home and on the road. There's been a longstanding desire from fans to get Bowen back on television, but so far, the network, for whatever reason, hasn't obliged.
