The Leafs were recently handed an embarrassing 5-1 loss by the Blues on home ice at Scotiabank Arena, and they'll be looking to return the favour to the Blues tonight in their home barn.
The Leafs are coming off of back-to-back wins against the Winnipeg Jets and Seattle Kraken this week and would love to keep the good times rolling. Owners of a 6-4-1 record, the Leafs would love to make it 3 straight.
For much of the early stages of the 2024-25 season, Anthony Stolarz has been the go-to goaltender for Leafs head coach Craig Berube. Joseph Woll, who made a significant pledge to CAMH this week, is yet to enjoy back-to-back starts this season, but that may change tonight, as Woll let something slip following practice on Friday that perhaps he shouldn't have.
Berube told the media on Friday that his team's goaltender for Saturday has not yet been decided. However, when Woll met with the media, he certainly made it sound like he was going to play.
Woll was lights-out against Seattle on Thursday, stopping 24 of 25 shots, posting a .960 SV% in a 4-1 win. If he does earn his second consecutive start, perhaps it's simply Craig Berube trying to build his confidence and create a little more competition between his goaltenders after an injury delayed the start of Woll's season.
Whether it's Woll or Stolarz in goal on Saturday, the Leafs are in a good position with two very capable netminders rolling right now. However, early indications seem to point to Joseph Woll in goal against the Blues for tonight's Hockey Night in Canada coverage.
