After a successful season in Toronto as the Leafs' 3rd string goaltender, and interesting report suggests that Martin Jones could be back next season.
Per Joshua Kloke of The Athletic, in a piece for the New York Times, the veteran Jones and his family has enjoyed living in Toronto and may have designs of extending their stay.
"Jones would prefer to play more games (what goaltender wouldn't) but crucially, Jones and his family enjoyed life in Toronto and appreciate living in bigger cities. Jones also formed a decent relationship with
Joseph Woll this season and having seven more seasons of NHL experience took to the mentor role easily. It sounds like Jones would be open to returning to Toronto. Given his familiarity, if the Leafs can convince Jones to take on the No. 3 job on a similar-ish cap hit next season, it feels like a no-brainer."
Jones saw 22 games worth of action for the Leafs in 2023-24, posting an 11-8-1 record to go along with a .902 SV% and 2.87 GAA. This is probably far more than the Leafs had wanted to lean on a 3rd string goalie, but thankfully, Jones was up to the task.
The North Vancouver, BC native is 34 years of age and knows how to win games. In his 466 career NHL games, Jones has posted a 236-171-36 record.
