It's a move that would make a lot of Toronto Maple Leafs fans happy, and head coach Craig Berube is hinting that it's coming. 20-year-old Fraser Minten may be getting another stint in the NHL.
Minten has played just five games in the AHL for the Toronto Marlies so far, but he's showing that he can hang just about anywhere with 2 goals and 2 assists in that time, and even emulating Auston Matthews with a sneaky maneuver recently during a shootout.
Asked about the possibility of Minten getting another shot with the big club, Berube said it's something that's being looked at, although the team wants to be careful.
Minten returned to the ice three weeks ago with development staff after suffering an injury during training camp. He doesn't appear to be have missed a beat at all.
There have been some members of the Maple Leafs underperforming lately, with veteran Max Domi facing the brunt of the criticism. That could certainly serve as an opening for Fraser Minten to find his way back to the NHL.
If he can continue on his current pace, Minten would finish his rookie season in the AHL season with around 52 points. He seems ready, and another look in the NHL surely can't hurt.
