The 22-year-old netminder from Kazan, Russia recently took to his Instagram account and posted 4 pictures of he and his new bride, Anna, after they tied the knot on Saturday.
Akhtyamov is currently one of the top goaltending prospects within the Maple Leafs' pipeline and after yet another strong season in Russia's KHL and VHL, the young goaltender is poised to make his North American debut in 2024-25.
Akhtyamov signed his 3-year entry-level contract with the Maple Leafs on the 1st of July, 2023 but was loaned back to Russia for developmental reasons. The Leafs didn't have room for him at the AHL or NHL level and another year wouldn't hurt. At the KHL-level with Ak Bars Kazan he posted a 2.51 G.A.A. and a .921 SV% in 17 games while posting a 2.00 G.A.A. and a .927 SV% for Neftyanik Almetievsk of the VHL.
He propelled Neftyanik Almetievsk to a championship with a spectacular 16-5 record, 2.15 G.A.A. and a .932 SV% with 2 shutouts. For his efforts in the post-season, he was named MVP of the Petrov Cup.
The former 4th round pick from the 2020 NHL Entry Draft has had a spectacular run in all 3 Russian leagues over the last 5 years and will hope to make an impact for the Toronto Marlies this upcoming season.
For now, he's set to enjoy the rest of his summer with his new bride and a championship ring.
