Leafs Nation will love how Fraser Minten spent a part of his 20th birthday
Maple Leafs prospect Fraser Minten turned 20 on Friday and kicked off his birthday celebration by staying on the ice for extra work after a lengthy development camp session.
Nobody can accuse Maple Leafs prospect Fraser Minten of not being an absolute workhorse after the top prospect stayed on the ice at Ford Performance Centre in Toronto following a Friday development camp session to run some additional drills with a few other guys on his birthday, per TSN's Mark Masters.
Minten, a 2022 2nd round pick, made the Maple Leafs' opening night roster out of training camp last season, but when it was determined that he could use a bit of additional seasoning, he was returned to the WHL to dominate for one more year, which was a good decision for his overall development.
Now, another year older, and with a taste of NHL action under his belt to fuel him, Minten looks more driven than ever to make the NHL and stick there this season.
While his point totals don't exactly jump off the page, having scored just 22 goals and 48 points in 43 games last season split between the Kamloops Blazers and Saskatoon Blades, Minten's two-way game is actually his claim to fame.
Touted as a very mature player for his age, Minten clearly has the eye of the Maple Leafs' front office, as assistant GM Dr. Hayley Wickenheiser has already spoken highly about Minten this week, praising the 20-year-old's hockey IQ, work ethic and two-way skill set, which likely bodes very well for him in his bid to win a roster spot in training camp this fall.
The Maple Leafs didn't go out and get a reputable 3rd line center in free agency this summer, so perhaps it means that Minten is already penciled in for the 3C job for the Leafs this coming season.
