Leafs Nation has been patiently awaiting the return of starting goaltender Joseph Woll for what seems like an eternity. Woll suffered a high-ankle sprain back at the start of December and while he had been skating with the Leafs, Sheldon Keefe and company have been steadfast in that he's nowhere close to returning.

Well, there's an exciting new development on the Woll front as the Leafs have reportedly sent the rookie netminder to the Toronto Marlies on a conditioning loan, indicating that he's closer than ever to a return.

Woll has been limited to just 15 games this season, racking up a 8-5-1 record, with a 2.80 GAA and a .916 SV% over that span. He had sparked two monumental comebacks against the Tampa Bay Lightning this season before going down with his unfortunate injury and had posted a .914 SV% or better in 4 of his previous 5 games before his ankle sprain.

As far as when we can expect to see Woll in action, the Marlies have a back-to-back coming up this weekend on Friday and Saturday against the Laval Rocket. Look for Woll to play a game or two with the Marlies before re-joining the Leafs, perhaps when the team returns home from their 4-game road trip on December 27th, hosting the Vegas Golden Knights.
