Maple Leafs bring back former Leaf Steve Sullivan in coaching role

Steve Sullivan has been hired by the Maple Leafs organization almost 25 years after he last played for the team.

The 50-year-old is officially set to return to Toronto, where he spent parts of four seasons with the Leafs from 1996 to 2000 and will join the Toronto Marlies' coaching staff as an assistant coach.

Over 18 seasons with the Leafs, Devils, Blackhawks, Coyotes and Predators, he skated in 1011 regular season games where he recorded 290 goals and 457 assists. During his time with the Leafs, Sullivan amassed 35 goals and 85 points in 154 games.

Since retiring following the 2012-2013 season, Steve Sullivan has spent the majority of his time working with the Arizona Coyotes, now the Utah Hockey Club. He joined the team during the 2014 season as a development coach before being promoted to the director of player development in 2016. From 2017 to 2021, he served as the assistant general manager of the Coyotes.
