The Leafs were already without a handful of regulars in the forward group when Bobby McMann was injured against the Florida Panthers last week.
On Thursday morning, following the Leafs' 3-2 win over the Nashville Predators on Wednesday, Craig Berube shared an intriguing update, stating that he was hopeful that McMann would be back next week at some point.
The Leafs' bench boss also provided updates on Max Domi who has been battling a lower-body injury, Max Pacioretty, who is on LTIR, battling a lower-body injury of his own, and Jake McCabe, who took a puck to the head and neck area last week.
Berube noted that Domi and McCabe are day-to-day, but won't play Friday against the Washington Capitals. Unfortunately for Pacioretty, while he's back skating, he is still not eligible to come off long-term injured reserve, even though he confirmed this week that he feels great.
The Leafs have played well without a number of regulars, and the play of rookies like Fraser Minten and Nikita Grebenkin has been noticeable and will force the Leafs into some difficult roster moves in the coming week or so.
