Long-time Nashville Predators captain Roman Josi was left in awe of Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Mitch Marner after Thursday night's loss.

Last night, the Maple Leafs emerged victorious once again, defeating the Nashville Predators by a score of 3-2.

Auston Matthews led the charge with two goals, while Mitch Marner also was a strong contributer with three assists in the matchup. Some might argue that Marner was the best player on the ice for either team. Roman Josi may very well be one of them.

It appears that Josi has been paying close attention to Marner's game and was impressed by his performance so far this season, offering praise for his playmaking ability ahead of last night's game.

"I think he's one of the smartest players in the league. When he has the puck, he sees things that other players don't see, and he always makes something out of nothing. You never quite know what he's going to do."

After the game, Josi reinforced his admiration for Marner, showing a bit of humour following the loss to the red hot Leafs.

"Well at least my analysis is top notch."

Marner has been exceptional for the Leafs this season, leading the team with 36 points in 25 games despite the team being ravaged by injuries.

Marner's stellar play earned him a spot on the stacked Team Canada for the 4 Nations Face-Off, further establishing himself as one of the top wingers in the NHL.

In Thursday's win, Marner's three assists highlighted his incredible playmaking skills, but his willingness to stand up for both himself and his teammates stood out, when he went after a Predators forward for running into his goaltender, Joseph Woll -- something we haven't seen a lot of during his career.

Marner's performance helped propel the Maple Leafs to a 16-7-2 record, extending their lead in the Atlantic Division.

Next up, the Maple Leafs will face the impressive Washington Capitals on Friday at Scotiabank Arena. The Capitals, boasting a 17-6-2 record, are in the upper-echelon of teams, much like the Leafs so far this season. This one should be a thrilling showdown between two of the NHL's top teams.
