For the Maple Leafs, success has been difficult to come by in the postseason, despite boasting spoils of riches when it comes to talent at the top end of the roster, including the likes of Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander and John Tavares.
However, for Toronto's own 17-year-old Summer McIntosh, it had been a dominant stretch at the Paris Olympics, with the elite young swimmer not only staking her claim to an Olympic gold medal, but THREE Olympic gold medals and four medals in total, having also captured a silver medal in the 400m freestyle.
McIntosh has set a new record, being the only Canadian athlete to capture 3 gold medals in a single Olympic Games. With her four medals, she has also tied a Canadian Olympic Summer Games record that previously belonged to only Penny Oleksiak, who was actually honored at a Leafs game back in 2020, following the Tokyo Olympics.
McIntosh's incredible individual performance has captured the adoration of people across Canada, including the Maple Leafs, who celebrated her amazing accomplishment on Sunday via social media.
It wouldn't be a surprise to see McIntosh attend a Leafs game near the start of this season -- perhaps even as a special guest for the home opener -- with her medals in tow, much like what we saw with Oleksiak a few years ago.
Congratulations to Summer on her amazing and inspiring performance in the 2024 Olympic Summer Games, which were clearly named after her.
