The announcement came on Monday morning, not long after ESPN's Kevin Weekes broke the news of a 3-year contract extension between the Maple Leafs and young goaltender Joseph Woll.
The Leafs will play a total of six pre-season games this year, down from the eight pre-season contests they had played last year. According to the schedule, the Leafs will play a pair of games against 3 division rivals, the Ottawa Senators, Montreal Canadiens and Detroit Red Wings. The dates are as follows:
September 22nd vs OttawaSeptember 24th at OttawaSeptember 26th vs MontrealSeptember 28th at MontrealOctober 3rd at DetroitOctober 5th vs Detroit
Less pre-season games means quicker roster decision-making by the Maple Leafs, which means that roster cuts will happen much more quickly than they did last fall.
All eyes will be on whichever new additions are made this summer, but perhaps most intriguing will be what happens with junior standouts Fraser Minten and Easton Cowan, who will be challenging for roster spots out of training camp.
