Leafs Nation held their collective breath last night when Nick Robertson gave William Nylander a bit of a shove, sending him crashing head-first into the knee of Canadiens forward Christian Dvorak, inadvertently knocking him out of the game against, which the Leafs ended up winning by a score of 2-1.
Thankfully, Leafs head coach Craig Berube shared an update with the media following the win last night, confirming that the Swedish Superstar would be just fine. A man of his word, Berube appears to be right, as Nylander is out on the ice for practice on Friday.
To add more good news, Auston Matthews, who missed the last two pre-season contests with an upper-body injury, is also practicing on Friday, even taking to the ice earlier than the rest of the team in an attempt to get a running start at today's on-ice sessions with the main group.
The Leafs are currently missing John Tavares, Fraser Minten, Calle Jarnkrok, Dakota Mermis and others, so Matthews and Nylander being able to avoid any extended missed time is certainly a win. Both Matthews and Nylander are coming off of career years last season, and both are set to kick off their lofty new deals when the season begins in approximately two weeks time.
The Maple Leafs will travel to Montreal following today's practice to prepare for a rematch with the Habs tomorrow night at The Bell Centre.
