In years past, the Leafs making changes in goal typically involved one of their goaltenders not being able to hack it.
Last season, we even saw Ilya Samsonov wind up on waivers after becoming borderline unplayable during stretches of the season.
Now, however, the Leafs boast two pretty solid options in Joseph Woll and Anthony Stolarz, and when they swap between goalies, they're getting quality starts from both of them. I'm not used to it, but I like it.
Following a win over the Nashville Predators on Wednesday, Woll revealed how he feels about the competition for starts between he and his tandem partner, Stolarz.
Now, Woll will take a back seat and watch Stolarz go to work on the Capitals on Friday night.
According to David Alter of The Hockey News, Stolarz was spotted going through his starting routine at the Leafs' morning skate, indicating that he'll get the nod on Friday night.
Of course, with the Leafs having a back-to-back this weekend, that means that Woll will get the nod tomorrow night against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Through 14 starts this season, Stolarz has racked up an 8-4-2 record to go along with a 2.23 GAA and a .924 SV%.
Meanwhile, Woll has posted a 7-2-0 record through his 9 starts, winning 6 straight games and posting a 2.11 GAA and a .922 SV%.
It's a good time to be a Leafs fan, folks!
