The Maple Leafs are heading into tonight's game against the Rangers on a 3-game winning streak and will be looking to make it 4 consecutive wins, and 3 straight at home. Meanwhile, the Rangers ride into Toronto having been unbeaten in regulation, winners of 3 of their last 4 games.
While it is expected that Igor Shesterkin will man the crease for the Rangers, the Leafs had a number of potential options available to them in terms of who might start on Saturday. Not only have Anthony Stolarz and Dennis Hildeby been excellent for the Maple Leafs to start the season, but Joseph Woll is finally healthy as well, taking part in a full practice session on Friday with the main group. However, it is Stolarz who will get the nod on Saturday.
Woll was injured before the start of the regular season and had not yet been activated after being placed on injured reserve due to "lower-body tightness" which has since been revealed to be a groin issue.
Hildeby picked up his first career NHL start and first career NHL win last Thursday against the New Jersey Devils, showcasing his incredible skill set, which has even earned him heaps of praise from current tandem partner Anthony Stolarz.
Stolarz has been absolutely sensational for the Leafs in the early stages of the season thus far. Through 3 games this season, Stolarz has been nearly unbeatable, posting a sparkling 1.70 GAA and a very strong .940 SV%. Stolarz's numbers are even better than those of Shesterkin, who comes into tonight's game boasting a 2.28 GAA and a .921 SV%, so buckle up, folks -- this should be a good one tonight.
