The William Nylander drama continues to rise in Toronto and it doesn't seem like it's going away anytime soon. Even once the Nylander drama settles whether he's signed or traded, there's more contract drama on the horizon. The Leafs will have to sign Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner this upcoming summer and it's a bit more complicated now thanks to John Tavares' $11million cap hit. As it stands right now, the Leafs only have 11 players under contract for next season with $30million in cap space, it's going to be quit the puzzle to solve considering Marner and Matthews can easily eat close $20million of that cap space and that would leave a need of 10 more players with only about $10million in cap space. Former Leafs' GM Mark Hunter believes it all should have been taken care of after last year's playoff run and before signing Tavares. «Oooh, big, big (challenge),» said Hunter«It's easy to look back, but last spring was the time.»Hunter was also asked specifically about Nylander's situation.
«That's a tough situation now. He's a hell of a player,» Hunter said. «People say trade him. Yeah, but who are you going to replace him with? He's a top-end player. Everybody talks about one (bad) playoff round. One playoff round is not going to define a top-end star player like him.»
