A fifth-round pick of the Leads in 2021, Ty Voit's first pro season was less than ideal and certainly one to forget. Beginning with a shoulder injury at the Traverse City Prospect Tournament, Voit was able to return to the Marlies' lineup for only a few minutes in December of last year.
Minutes into his mid-December pro debut, Voit fell awkwardly into the boards and tore his labrum, which forced him to miss the remainder of the season.
Ahead of the Prospects Showcase in Montreal this year, Voit made it clear that he wanted to re-establish himself as one of the top prospects in the Leafs' system.
Having played just 18 pro games so far, Voit began this season with the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones, where he has struggled to find his offense. Through 12 games, he has tallied just one goal and four points, but with the Leafs' forward group ravaged by injury, Voit is being given an opportunity to redeem himself and show that he belongs with the Toronto Marlies.
As Fraser Minten, Nikita Grebenkin, Alex Steeves, and Alex Nylander are currently up with the Leafs, the Marlies recalled Voit on Saturday.
The former OHL standout was unable to make it in time for the Marlies' game on Saturday, which forced the club to play with 11 forwards, but he will be available for Sunday's afternoon game.
Considered a steal by many in the fifth round in 2021, Voit and the Leafs hope his injury issues are behind him and he can get back to producing the offensive numbers that he was known for during his time with the OHL's Sarina Sting.
