"While everybody is still talking about the Toronto Maple Leafs landing John Tavares, general manager Kyle Dubas might be ready to hand out his next big contract. According to Auston Matthews himself, contract negotiations regarding an extension have begun between the Leafs and Matthews' camp. Matthews will of course become a restricted free agent next July 1st, however the Leafs would like to lock the superstar up now and it'll likely be anywhere in the $10million-$12million a season range. The team still has to come to an agreement with William Nylander and start to prepare for next year when Mitch Marner, Kasperi Kapanen, Andreas Johnsson, Josh Leivo and Connor Carrick also become RFA's. The 20 year old has 74 goals and 132 total points in 144 regualar season games so far in young NHL career.
