The Leafs forward is set to become a UFA on Monday, July 1st. Domi is coming off an impressive first season with the blue and white, where he put up 47 points in 80 games. His 118 penalty minutes were 7th in the league.
Domi doesn't drop the gloves more than a handful of times per year, but it appears as though brushing up on his boxing skills is something he prioritized this summer.
Domi shared a post to his personal Instagram account this week of him training with pro martial arts/boxing coach, Jorge Blanco. Blanco is a former Olympic boxer and is the former pro Spanish National Kickboxing Champion. The Spaniard is also famous for training athletes like UFC champion Georges St. Pierre. There are few people for Domi to learn better fighting technique from than Blanco.
Fighting is clearly in Max's DNA as his father, Tie Domi, amassed a total of 333 fights in his NHL career, which is first in NHL history.
Max will not ever come close to having as many fights as his dad, but fine-tuning this aspect to his game will make him an even more valuable commodity for the Leafs, who have put a real emphasis on bringing in competitors who possess some snarl since GM Brad Treliving took over the reins in Toronto.
