"Despite a Calder Cup championship, it doesn't look like Miro Aaltonen is a big fan of the AHL. According to Aaltonen's agent, Todd Diamond, the 25 year old is headed back to the KHL after just one season with the Marlies. The forward looked good at times and even looked like he could crack the Maple Leafs roster out of camp, however to nobody's surprise, head coach Mike Babcock elected to stick with veteran Dominic Moore which moved Aaltonen down to the Marlies. He never got a chance to come back up to the NHL and he's stated he'd prefer to go to the KHL where he'll play a top role. General manager Kyle Dubas was hoping that Aaltonen would stick around and battle for a roster spot, he's dissapointed that Aaltonen left but there's no hard feelings.
Todd Diamond, Miro Aaltonen's agent says he has informed the Toronto Maple Leafs that Aaltonen is returning to the KHL for next season. — Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger) June 21, 2018
