Mitch Marner is known more for his finesse than his grit, which should come as a surprise to no one. But he showed last night that he's ready to get his hands dirty when it's needed.
The Leafs held out for a 3-2 win over the Nashville Predators on Wednesday, despite Joseph Woll letting in one of his worst goals of the season, spotting the Predators a 1-0 lead.
Thankfully for Woll, Auston Matthews and Matthews Knies came to play, putting up a pair of highlight reel plays en route to stealing the game from the Preds.
Meanwhile, with his team up 3-1 in the third period, Mitch Marner let out his inner lion after Colton Sissons had a partial breakaway.
Sissons took liberties with goaltender Joseph Woll, barreling into the goaltender while trying to poke the puck in the net. Marner wasn't happy at all with how things went down and was quick to act.
While I'm sure this isn't exactly expected of Mitch Marner, it's what head coach Craig Berube wants to see as he attempts to prepare the team for a Stanley Cup Playoffs run.
NHL teams can have all the finesse and offensive talent in the world, but strength of character and will is what wins Stanley Cups. Hopefully Marner keeps showing his mean streak.
The Toronto Maple Leafs, despite some not so great moments last night, continue to keep their determination alive while never giving up on the play. This is most definitely what GM Brad Treliving had hoped for when Craig Berube was brought in.
