It was another playoff performance to forget for Marner and Leafs fans have apparently had enough of it with the majority wanting him traded. It has been a tough few weeks for Marner. First, Marner came under fire for bailing on a hit and then was ridiculed for his lack of effort on David Pastrnak's Game 7 overtime goal. With many reporters speculating that a major roster change, specifically to the "Core 4" is coming, Marner, who is in the final year of his contract, is the most likely one to be traded.
Although John Tavares is also in the final year of his contract, many find it hard to believe the Leafs would ask their captain to waive his no-movement clause and would prefer to move Marner, even if the main thing the Leafs gain is some cap flexibility. There is concern around Leafs Nation that it will be difficult to trade Marner because of his no-movement clause and his cap hit, but according to Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos, there are a number of teams already calling about the winger.
Whether Marner is willing to waive his no-movement clause or not is another obstacle to overcome, but at the very least, the Leafs know that they have a number of suitors lining up to potentially acquire Marner. With the number of teams calling the Leafs about the perennial 90+ point winger, they should be able to recoup some substantial assets in return if they are able to trade him.
