After another disappointing season, where the Toronto Maple Leafs were eliminated in the first round by the Boston Bruins, the team has undergone a much-needed shake-up of their defensive core and goaltending.
NHL analyst Jonny Lazarus believes the changes the Maple Leafs made in the off-season make them a strong contender for the President's Trophy in the 2024-25 season.
As noted by @JLazzy23 on X:
This prediction places the Maple Leafs ahead of other top teams such as the Florida Panthers, New York Rangers, Dallas Stars, and Carolina Hurricanes, all of whom had more points than the Maple Leafs last season.
For Lazarus's prediction to come true, not only will the core four need to remain productive throughout the season, but the Maple Leafs will also need key contributions from young players like Matthew Knies and Nick Robertson, along with impactful performances from rookies Easton Cowan and Fraser Minten, if they make the team.
Additionally, a solid showing from the goaltending duo of Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll, along with their ability to stay healthy, will be crucial for the Maple Leafs to achieve the President's Trophy for the first time in the team's history, since the trophy was introduced in the 1985-86 season.
