Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander is still without a new contract as we get closer to the season. Nylander is of course a restricted free agent so he won't be going anywhere unless he's traded. Will Nylander sign long term or short term is the biggest question. However with the recent signing of John Tavares to a long term monster deal and Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews needing new deals next season, everything is starting to become complicated. Even Nylander himself wasn't sure that everybody, including himself can be signed long term because of the addition of Tavares. That's what Nylander told Mike Zeisberger of NHL.com recently, and he feels it could be especially hard in the salary cap era. If Dubas could pull it off though, Nylander would love it. "I think it would be amazing," Nylander said. "We've been playing together now for a couple of years and having a lot of fun and a lot of success together. It would be a blast to be together for a long time." The first tell tale sign of if it can be done will be to see what kind of deal Nylander gets.
