Oshawa Generals Share Some Unfortunate News Regarding Leafs' Top D Prospect Ben Danford

The Oshawa Generals have shared some unfortunate news regarding the health of Leafs prospect and Generals captain Ben Danford after a dirty play takes him out of action.
It's been a bit of a down year, production-wise, for top Maple Leafs defensive prospect Ben Danford, who was selected 31st overall by the club at the 2024 NHL Entry Draft back in June.
After producing 33 points in 64 games in the OHL last season, Danford has seen his production dip to the tune of 19 points across 46 games this season.
Danford's never been an offensive juggernaut, but the Leafs believe there is definitely some untapped offensive potential there. Unfortunately, Danford may not have an opportunity to turn things around for awhile after suffering an injury at the hands of Will Gerrior of the Ottawa 67's this week.
The Generals confirmed an injury for Danford via a social media post on the weekend, calling Gerrior's play on Danford "one of the dirtiest" ones you'll see.
"One of the dirtiest plays you'll see all season as Will Gerrior takes his free hand and wraps it around Danford and slams him into the boards. Danford is down and looks like his shoulder came out. Brutal hit."
Danford has had a bit of a tough year, as he was also injured during a practice for the Leafs ahead of the 2024 Prospects Showcase in Montreal. The injury, believed to be a concussion, took Danford out for the entirety of Leafs training camp and bled into his OHL season.
Danford was named captain of the Generals this past summer and certainly has a bright future -- one that hopefully culminates in a lengthy NHL career. Injuries are a part of the game, however, and Danford looks like he'll sit for awhile with a shoulder injury.
