"After Mitch Marner dominated headlines in Toronto for the last couple of months, Auston Matthews has by far dominated the headlines over the last 24 hours. Matthews has been charged with disorderly conduct regarding a summer incident, and it was apparently kept hidden this whole time by Matthews camp. Both Pierre LeBrun and Bob McKenzie revealed today the Leafs had no knowledge of the incident until yesterday like everybody else. McKenzie reveals that Matthews told his parents and agent who likely hired the lawyer, but nobody ever told the Leafs. After practice today head coach Mike Babcock also revealed that he learned about everything yesterday. "You're always disappointed. As the Toronto Maple Leafs, we really pride ourselves on doing things right, on the ice and off the ice and in treating people. It's an unfortunate situation."There's chatter building up that this could delay any captain announcement and might actually change Matthews' chances of becoming captain.
