The Toronto Maple Leafs went into the offseason looking for a change in culture after another playoff failure. New general manager Brad Treliving was on the lookout for leadership, toughness and truculence, signing one of the toughest enforcers in the game in Ryan Reaves. Many eyebrows were raised when it was announced that Reaves would be signing a three-year deal, with a cap hit of $1.35M.
Reaves was brought in because of all the intangibles he brings on and off the ice. Last night was another great example of this. Reaves found out he would be a late scratch, with Noah Gregor taking his place, to inject some more speed into the lineup. Instead of sulking, Reaves was there to pump up the boys, before they went out for the second period.
From the video, Reaves is shown wearing a hoodie and shorts, bouncing up and down offering handshakes to teammates Nick Robertson, Mitch Marner, and Noah Gregor. What an absolute class act and a true professional. Reaves is a great example to his teammates.
It remains to be seen whether Reaves will find his way back into the lineup for Game 7. No matter his role, Reaves will continue to do his part by bringing his swagger, confidence and plenty of energy to the group.
