The Toronto Maple Leafs are expected to be buyers at this year's trade deadline and one insider believes that they should take a run at acquiring Brandon Tanev.

The March 7th trade deadline is not far away now, and teams are reportedly expected to begin looking at completing the first wave of trades leading up to the 4 Nations Face-Off.

One of the teams expected to add this year, of course, is Toronto. A team who could once again sell off some of their assets is the Seattle Kraken.

The Leafs have already been linked to the likes of Yanni Gourde in Seattle, but according to The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, there may be another player in Seattle who they'd very much like to get their hands on. Chris Tanev's brother, Brandon Tanev.

While appearing as a guest on The Leafs Nation's "Leafs Morning Take" podcast, Pagnotta had this to say about Brandon Tanev being a good fit for the Leafs.

"There's another player out there in Seattle, not a center, but a winger, Chris [Tanev's] brother. Like, you bring in Brandon Tanev -- he's the guy that provides that extra spark, physically, can keep up with the pace of play for most of the game, especially come playoff time when it tightens up, and he can get you that key goal every now and again... If I'm comfortable with who I have up the middle from a 3C role perspective, and the prices for a 2C are too high, I mean, Brandon Tanev is a guy that I'd be jumping at."

As we well know, the Tanev brothers are Toronto natives, and I'm sure that Brandon would jump at the chance to join his brother and become a Maple Leaf. The question is, is another winger really what the team needs?

One would think that the two main areas that the Leafs are looking to upgrade would be down the middle and on the blueline. Leafs GM Brad Treliving recently confirmed that he's looking for a specific type of player. Brandon Tanev does not appear to fit what he's looking for.

Still, with Tanev essentially embodying the intensity, pace and physicality that the Leafs seem to covet, he'd make for a solid asset for the playoffs, if that's the route that the Leafs opt to go.

Tanev, 33, has produced 15 points for the Seattle Kraken across 45 games, and has racked up 99 hits and 78 blocked shots this season. He does a little bit of everything and could definitely help the Leafs if they have any doubts about any of their bottom six wingers.
