It's been an up-and-down season for Maple Leafs winger Max Pacioretty, with the veteran forward once again struggling to remain consistently healthy, already having missed a lengthy stretch of games due to a lower-body injury earlier this season.
Now, per the Maple Leafs' official PR account on Twitter/X, Pacioretty is once again coming out of the lineup due to injury. Pacioretty will not skate on Monday with an unspecified upper-body ailment.
The 36-year-old has increased his physicality this season by a large margin, embracing life as a role player in Toronto.
But, it was not the wear and tear of the sudden rise in physical play that did the damage in this case. The belief (although unconfirmed) is that it was this puck to the head that is the cause of his upper-body issue.
Pacioretty originally came to Toronto on a PTO, playing his way into a standard player contract with the Maple Leafs prior to the start of the regular season.
The former Canadiens captain's contract included two bonus incentives, which raised his salary from around $874,000 at its base to over $1.47M, thanks to his performance bonuses, which were linked to the number of games he played.
Pacioretty has already hit one bonus and is just a few games away from hitting his second bonus marker, which will have netted him over $626,000 in bonus cash by the time all is said and done.
Pacioretty has tallied 5 goals and added 7 assists for a total of 12 points across 32 games this season.
